I have been searching everywhere for a deep berry/purple lipstick and it's proving impossible. The best way I can think to describe the shade I am after is a currant/vampy purple that doesn't come off as brown. Do any of you lovely people have an idea of where or what i can look for?

I know exactly what you mean about the vampy lips and their annoying brown undertones. Ive had the same problem trying to find dark red vampy lips without the brown undertones >_< Sounds to me like a perfect match to what youre looking for would be Mac's Smoked Purple. http://www.temptalia.com/images/fall2010/mac_smokedpurple003.jpg
To me it's just..dark pueple with purple undertones! haha. I couldnt find any good cheaper dupes though but mac is relatively cheap compared to other high end brands (around 14.50)

Try VaVa Violet from Revlon or Lancome's Rouge in Love lipstick in Fiery Attitude. Those are two of my favorites. Hope that helps : )

yes I agree I have revlon black cherry it is perfect for that vampy look and if u r like me and like lips to shine I use mac's clear lip glass on top for the pop but I have not found a mac shade that works either

NYX have some really great dark and deep purples such as Eggplant and a few other shades.. it depends if you are looking for more of a berry/plum shade or a straight up purple! I love them though, the formula is awesome and they are so budget friendly! =)

You can try MAC Rebel if you're looking for deep purple. If you're on for plum shades, MAC Craving would do good :)
