Is it good to dye your hair the same day you washed it? Or does it matter?

I washed my hair in the morning and I'm going to dye it in a few and I'm not sure if the color will stay on.?

It should stay on just fine since you washed it earlier.

You will wash out all natural oil and the coloring will damage your hair. Wait couple of days.

Hi, I'm a cosmetologist. There is really not that much a difference as far as how well the dye takes to your hair, and depending on how much styling product you use it might actually be better to dye it when its clean. The biggest difference will be how much of your scalp is dye with your hair. If you are going lighter than your natural color then it can help fight scalp irritation to have day old hair though. That's really the main reason why colorists will ask you to have dirty hair for a color service but its not required.

I have to wash my hair before I dye it. My hair over produces oil and the dye doesn't stick to my hair if I don't wash it. I only wash it after I dye my hair black or blonde.

Dani it is imperative that you wash your hair after dying. leaving dye in longer than what the directions say can cause you to have a severe allergic reaction. it doesn't matter what the color is- the dye must be rinsed off!
