I've been using a bare minerals stippling brush. I just don't think that's how I should be applying it, it often goes on too think and I have to remove some. I started using a foundation brush but I feel like it doesn't apply as well.

I would suggest ELF's Complexion brush. Not only is it Round and wide but it will also get your product where you want it, instead of using a Blush or Stippling Brush. I Hope that this helped, Love.
