I am having a hard time with foundation. I have tried Almay smart shade and its like lotion and it makes my face ashy. I use loreal true match ( liquid) in cool soft sable c6, But that is shade is actually 'brighter" than my actual skin complexion its the right tone but its too vivid I guess you can say, Also it moves all the time even after I apply finishing powder. All the other shades are either too dark or too light. I have tried Mineral Powder and Mineral Power ( Maybelline) and that does not work out either. I am not sure what should I do. Am I applying make up incorrectly? I am new to doing my own make up and I am in a wedding in 2 months and I do not want to look weird. what I normally do is dab on almay clear complexion concealer from under my eye and on the sides of my nose and mouth then I apply true match, after that I use covergirl clean finishing powder and it still runs off.. If you need additional pictures of me check out my profile. any advice will be great.

do you have oily skin?

To be completely honest, you may have to go to a beauty counter and have your foundation matched to your skin. You'll pay a little more, but you will get what you want. I played foundation roulette for years until I finally just sat down and got matched. Now all the money I save in wasted cosmetics that I can't return is funneled into one that will match (and depending if you do liquid or powder) they will last a while longer too.

Around my nose yes but other than that my skin is pretty normal

that could be a caused and i agree with Jessica. Sometimes drug store foundation just doesnt do the trick. I noticed after I went back to drugstore makeup after MAC nothing stayed on, so sometimes its best to invest in a good foundation

@ jessica Sadly in my area ( I live in south alabama) the only thing we have that actually lets you sit down at the counter and what not is dillards, jcpenny, and walgreens. Walgreens stuck me with true match, dillards put me with something called the queen collection ( It was heavy and cakey) , and jc penny put me with mineral powder. Its kinda like i have to figure it out myself lol

the products you mentioned are not very good for women of color. you need to get a MAC counter asap :) !

Dillards sounds like your best bet. The Dillards by me has Clinque, Lancome, Dior and other higher end brands. Test them out, see if you like how they feel on your face. Lancome I felt wiped off really fast, but that was also years ago. Don't let them force anything on you. Tell them what YOU want and walk away when they don't give you what you're looking for. The make up counters are a commission position, if they want to get paid, they will give you the service you want.

Just looking at ur complexion I know Mac has the stuff u need whether u have oily or dry skin but I dont recommend buying online without knowing what to buy just because they have their own language when it comes to foundation lancome, clinique and dior all are good but I find that MAC has the best in variety of shades for darker skin types to match our skin tones I would maybe take a trip to a city in Alabama that has a MAC counter it an investment that is worth it I used drugstore brands for years and about 10 yrs ago I went to a MAC store and was introduced to their skinfinish and it was as if a light was shone on me and I have been in heaven every since

I love going simple when it comes to caring for skin I have found that Nuetrogena makeup remover cleanser and the makeup remover wipes are the best for removing ur makeup and u should cleans ur skin twice a day even if u dont wear makeup and if u have oily skin moisteriser is not ur friend ! if u have combo skin only moisterize the dry areas that r u will find if u have moisterizer on oily skin u will break out more and if u have blemishes or if u r acne prone using plain alcohol or witch hazel is a good toner and works great to dry out those pimples and have them gone n no time without scarring and if u work out dont workout or sweat n ur makeup dove is ok but I recommend something that will get all the dirt off ur skin and keep the pores from being clogged

Have you tried Revlon colorstay foundation? For me this is a good foundation that dries quick and long lasting one of my favorite drugstore brand foundation.

If it's for your wedding definatly hit up some beauty counters (estee lauder, mac, clinique, etc) and get matched and get samples. Cause if you screw up your foundation, it's going to show in pictures and you don't want that to ruin your pretty face!!!!! :) I'd say splurge on the foundation at the very least, it's what's going to count the most :)

I was in the same boat as you. I figured out that I cant wear drugstore foundation and went to my local deparment store and got matched. Sometimes you just gotta splurge. If you do decide to go the deparment store route, my two picks are Clinique and a
Lancome. They have an excellent range of formulas for all skin types and they also have a good range of colors for deeper skintones. Good Luck : )

whatever makeup u decide to get make sure u have a good skin care regimen because that is the most important thing to having and doing good makeup is that the canvas is as blank as possible. And u dont have to spend alot of money on good skin care I would invest more in the makeup just because healthy skin can be acheived with out breaking the bank and a healthy diet i.e. drinking water but flawless makeup that keeps u camera ready is something altogether a different story but the two go hand in hand
