I'm in a rut

I'm so tired of struggling and fighting with my hair every day. I'm bored of it, and need something new! I want to cut it all off. It's currently pretty long, at least mid back. And black. I want some craaaaaazy colors in there. Purple, white, pink, turquoise.

Anyone with any good ideas for a punky, easy haircut that wouldn't need much styling to rock (so on the snorkeling trips and hiking excursions, I don't have to wake up an hour early for my hair to look decent) but that can be styled to be AWESOME.

I've had the same hair for a while, and now that my life has become so much crazier, I feel my hair must reflect this. Please, any ideas would be amazing. I'm stumped. Also, tips on bleaching, and some advice on how to go about that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I think that a short-to-mid length cut with choppy layers is the easiest to maintain. Think skater boy. You can wake up and ruffle your hair and that's it. It's supposed to look messy and dishevelled and is the simplest style to achieve. The only thing you really have to do is remember to get your layers re-cut every three to six months, depending on how fast your hair grows.

And for tips on bleaching, do it professionally. I've only become confident with bleaching hair after several years of watching my stylist work on others, and trust me: you do NOT want to get it wrong. Broken hair and burnt scalp is just two of the downsides of improper bleaching.

Anything in particular I should watch for while getting my hair bleached? After care? I am in Thailand, and I don't speak a lot of Thai, I just wanna make sure I don't totally kill my hair.

And as for the pic, That's a little short... I was hoping to have maybe the longest sections be chin length maybe, with shorter length sections, too. Also, my hair is pretty thin (I guess) and my last stylist told me too many layers will make my hair look stringy. Would this be a problem?

Avoid swimming for a week or two. The chlorine in swimming pools can make the bleach and dye change colour.

Ah. For that hair, thin hair may not be the best canvas. Do you have naturally straight hair?

(Another tip for aftercare is to use a hair mask once a week, just because bleach is very damaging to your hair and it's a good idea to try and replenish the lost nutrients.)

My hair is naturally kinda wavy I guess. Mostly straight...

Luckily no pools, just ocean excursions. I'll have to look into hair masks. What about dying after the bleaching? Should I wait to dye my hair the other colors, or is it ok to do that right away?

Because it's the first time bleaching your hair (I'm assuming :) ) leave it all up to your stylist. Just pick the colours and let them work their magic.

And because your hair is kind of wavy, I'm pretty sure layers should be fine. Blowdry your hair upside down to add volume.

You're pretty lucky you're in Thailand. The hairstylists over there know their stuff. :) So try to find one that speaks English or find someone who can translate for you. That's the best thing, really.

Never bleached, but I dye my hair every few months.

Mmkay, didn't know that about Thailand. I'll have to ask around and see where everyone get's theirs done.
