Or curling iron I find curling wands very difficult. Curl the hair backwards. Hope that makes sense.

If you have a curling iron (or you could even use a straightener as well) curl the hair by starting at the the top of your head and wrapping the hair around the wand or whatever (versus going from the bottom up). Curl the strands framing your face away from your face.
