Im looking for a foundation for dry skin. I have a food allergies and tend to rash around my nose and mouth. Im just getting over a break out and no matter how much i exfoliate halfway though the day im flaking again. My foundation is unforgiving! it looks gross.
-also, i have every fair skin.

any input in welcome!
thanks!

You will want to look for a foundation that uses terms like "dewy" or "luminous" in the discription. Those foundations tend to have more moisture than a normal or basic foundation. Also try to narrow your search to liquid type foundations.

Most brands, both drug store and high end have these types of foundations. Also, a good face primer can help ease this problem too, avoiding any primers that say oil free.

Are you using a good moisturizer? It's great that you are exfoliating, but make sure that you aren't using a physical exfoliater while you have an active breakout, it can spread the bacteria.
For foundation, it depends on how much coverage you are looking for. Some choices that I love for dry skin are Chanel vitalumiere aqua (probably my favorite if you are okay with a sheer to medium coverage) Diorskin nude, the new tarte amazonian clay fdtn if you want a full coverage. And maybe the laura mercier moisturizing fdtn, NOT the moisture supreme. The moisture supreme is the newer of the two and it just does not sit as nicely on the skin, the colors are a little odd also

I use Aveeno because it one of the few im not allergic to. my breakouts are from my food allergies, and no i dont exfoliate with an active rash on my face. i normally dont use makeup till my skin calms down.
I tryed a MAC fdtn but it oxidizer on my skin. For a girl thats NW15, thats really really not good.

I would try out the Maybelline Dream Smooth mousse...its a cream foundation with a very dewy finish. I use it everyday and its super moisturizing and inexpensive, although the shade choices can be a bit weird. If you don't want a lot of coverage, a tinted moisturizer might be an even better option =)

ps: are you on any kind of allergy medication? I have rashes/hives caused my allergies as well and taking Allegra everyday has really helped keep them at bay!

I have really dry skin and I like the Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation a lot. It is very emollient and has a dewey finish. For days when I have a lot of flaking I exfoliate, moisturize really well and then use a very silicone heavy primer like L'Oreal Studio Secrets primer.

My face is a dry barren wasteland and I love Make Up For Ever's face and body foundation. I'm not sure if you could find a foundation that would match (I can barely pull off their #20 and I'm NC15ish). It has a nice natural finish, decent wear and I can get away with not setting it with powder.:) In regards to flakiness (I get this around certain areas of my face) I agree with indie G. - a good silicone heavy primer is awesome. I've used Make Up For Ever and Smashbox's primers and I love both. :)

I have the driest skin even in hot, humid weather.. and i get flakes in my cheek area when i put on foundation. But lately Ive been using Revlon Age Defying foundation and i must say, Ive been getting quite a few compliments on how dewy and fresh my skin looks. (: goodluck!

I too have dry skin. I don't know how much you are willing to spend but I have recently discovered Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation and Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation and they are amazingly hydrating!

Bourjois and Laura Mercier are brands that I absolutely adore for dry skin. I'm currently using the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum when I need a fuller coverage, and the Laura Mercier Silk Creme when I'm blemish free.

And don't exfoliate every day. That can really irritate your skin and cause excessive dryness. Instead, exfoliate every 3-4 days, and invest in a deep moisturising treatment. I've just done a post on my current skincare routine and I'm currently suffering from really, really dry skin. I think it could help you out.

In general creme foundations or tinted moisturizers are best suitable instead of a powder or standard liquid foundation. Just make sure you don't have combination skin.
