Ok... so I'm doin a bit of research for a product I'm designing and need as much feedback as possible. so here is my question. how do you store your brushes when you are at your freelance gigs? (brush roll, makeup case, brush book, etc.etc.etc) and what do you like or dislike about your brush storage?

please feel free to leave any feedback about this topic (no matter how insignificant it may be) as I need as much insight as I can get. x

I'm still working on a system I like and I've been doing this for years. I have a brush roll but it gets annoying. I would love to have something built into my train case that kept my brushes upright and made for easy set up where ever I'm working. Plus, I live in Mexico and there is not a lot available here.

I have the MUFE case, a cylinder that closes and then opens to hold the brushes upright.

When I travel I like for everything to stay in place inside the bag. What I do is, I buy those little clear rocks or marbles in a cute little container. I insert my brushes and place the box on the bottom of the bag. I usually place it on the corner. I pack everything around it so it don't no where. This works for me. Since everything is well put away, when I am unloading everything my brushes are already in a nice cute box and I can go right to work!

Very good points, Jacqueline and good topic, Jay! I'm curious to see what you come up with because I feel its definitely an area that can be improved upon.

Personally, I also prefer a brush roll - it's easy and convenient to travel with and it also helps me to not naturally put a dirty brush away before cleaning it (I usually keep a towel on it to separate the clean from dirty) and keep everything nice and neat and organized.

Sometimes I will wear an over the shoulder brush belt if I'm moving around a lot but I find it gets cluttered and the belt itself is often times difficult to keep sanitary. It does have the hip option but I just find it awkward when I have a palette of colors and I'm shifting around to grab a brush.

Hopefully that offers some insight - oh and be sure to contact Beautylish when whatever you're developing launches ;).

What I do depends on the gig.

Working in a theater, as I often do (I'm the dept. head for a large ballet company) I keep brushes in quad packs which I lay out flat and leave unzipped. Used brushes go in keg cups with the performer's name on for changes and touch ups, brushes for non-key performers go in a dirty pile until I can clean during the show. This works well for the volume of brushes I go through; we're talking up to a few hundred per performance!

For all other work I carry either one quad pack or a brush belt or two, which I lay flat and then dirties go home in a large ziplock.

I've used vessels by Cozette and MUFE over the years as well. I've been doing this a couple decades, so I have some strong opinions on what works for me and what doesn't.

What I would LOVE that doesn't exist? Something soft and flexible, that closes in a way that protects brushes and they can't fall out of it, that holds the volume of brushes I use (even on a small job I'll still take at least 50 brushes with me - don't judge) and can be opened, stood up on end like an easel, and so I can see everything. I love the quad pack solution, the only downfall is I can't see everything. The easel type stands that exist don't work for me because they don't hold enough brushes. And this goes without saying, but it needs to be able to be cleaned and disinfected, and black so stains don't show.

Honestly, if such a thing existed, I would pay a LOT of money for it.
