This is how I do my messy buns... I pull sections out and scrunch the roots with my hand, I recommend having lots of bobby pins ready!

Do the motion like you're making a ponytail, but stop midway so it looks like a loop. Then spread the loop to look little a fan. Take the hair that's not in the loop and wrap it around the base of the loop. Bobby pin it for security then hair spray if needed.

I like using the twist method. :) I reccommend having some sort of texture, such as curls/waves, to keep it looking loose and messy.

Btw, the "twist method" is when you pull your hair up ontop of your head into a high loose ponytail. Then, twist the hair around in one direction while wrapping it around the base of the ponytail. Secure it down with a hairtye and a few bobby pins if you need them

I use the twist method but after, run my fingers through the top of my head and pull some of the hair loose from the bun.
