I've been mixing prenatal vitamins into my shampoo, as well as taking one once a week, for a few months. I've seen positive changes in my hair so far. My ultimate goal is to grow my hair out longer.

Has anyone had any success with prenatal vitamins?

...Putting them in your shampoo is not going to do anything at all. I have no idea why people think that is actually going to do anything. The hair you see is already dead cells, which therefore can not absorb the nutrients you are putting on it.

Also, taking vitamins will not help it grow any faster unless you are missing something in your diet and that is causing it to grow slower than normal rate. And taking one a week? That isn't even going to make up for any dietary needs not being met.

If youre not pregnant do not take prenatal vitamins. point blank.

Cinthia, taking it will only help if your hair is growing slower than normal rate because your regular diet is lacking something needed for hair growth that the vitamins contain. Crushing anything up and putting it in your shampoo is a load of bullshit and it will do absolutely nothing but waste your time and money. I've heard of people who have also done this with birth control pills, biotin, and the list goes on. It's nothing but lies and total crap.

The truth is, the only reason people think all this stuff is amazing and makes their hair grow "faster" is because they weren't eating right to begin with, so once their hair is growing the way it is suppose to grow because they are now getting the right amount nutrients to support proper hair growth they are totally amazed. But really, if you already have a proper diet... it will not do jack shit for you.

Aleighnna, thank you. (;

Agree with all of the above! It doesn't do anything for hair and its honestly kinda harmful to take prenatal vitamins when youre not preggers.

It's not harmful usually, they do say on the bottle they are for before, during, and after pregnancy but they do contain a large dose of certain things that are good for you but can also be harmful if you overdose, such as iron. That is why it is best to discuss anything you are taking with your doctor. Personally, I keep some around because I have a bad habit of not eating right mostly because my stomach is upset a lot and I don't feel like eating. But I do not take them everyday. I know I never take in a enough of the things in it to hurt me, so I feel comfortable taking them.

I guess thats why I've always been told not to take them then. I have ginormous amounts of iron in my system, so your explanation actually makes sense then.

Prenatal vitamins are for pregnant women and women trying to get pregnant unless your doctor has told you to take them you should not take them.

Taking prenatal vitamins while not pregnant is not harmful...after I had my baby girl my doctor actually recommended that I keep taking them for a bit...and Danielle it's not always about diet...I eat very healthy and drink lots of water but I still had trouble with my hair falling out and not growing...no medical reason why this was happening so sometimes people need a boost to help the hair get a kick start. I have really long hair but it wasn't healthy so the prenatals helped me out a lot...Thalia if its working for you then keep doing it

Heather, I do have a bottle of them which says for before, during, and after pregnancy. Obviously if you can take them while "trying" to get pregnant, they aren't horrible for you. Your body does not understand that you are actually trying to get pregnant because after all that is nature's goal to reproduce so your body is always "trying" to get pregnant. So if they wouldn't hurt you while actually trying to get pregnant, they aren't going to hurt you in a normal situation. But yeah, you should talk to your doctor about anything you take.

Jasmine, actually it IS about diet. If you were getting everything in your diet that you needed you wouldn't need them. That is why they fall under the description "dietary supplements." Because they are supplementing what you are not getting in your normal diet. Eating healthy doesn't mean you are getting everything you need.

I heard that your hair is genetically chosen as to how long it will grow after that it won't grow anymore.
