I dyed my hair plum last year and I'm bored of it now how can I get rid of the red? I've tried dying my hair brown but it doesn't help.

Have you tried the colour remover? You can buy it in most beauty stores in the hair dye section your need two or three boxes to remove the red and itll take you back to natural colour. When you done that I have to waits 24 hours before re~dying hair. Hope this helps.

Red doesn't go away really, need to grow out or strip the colour as Laura suggested.

Have a professional use a decolorizer. Then color your hair whatever you want. If you still see a hint of red after decolorizing make sure the stylist uses a green based (ash) color not neutral.

It's really hard to get rid of red or not have it show up.
I have natural red hair and to have it dyed without a red tint was I bleached it to a blonde then waited to dye my hair to the color I wanted. Which was a brown and it had no red tint in it at all.

Don't dye it black! That's even harder to remove than red. Trust me.

Either dye your hair black BUT ONLY IF YOU WANT BLACK HAIR, cause black hair is a pain in the ass to take out.
I either say use a toner or bleach it & then use a toner
Hope I helped

Don't buy the hair color removers in the drugstores they'll just turn you hair either orange or brassy!

However you have to dye it after because it most likely won't be a great color but it will definitely take the red out

None can help you... there are 2 colours which are unremovable... one of them is red... you just can use black, but it's the second one.

If you'll use some colour removers, then you'll have to cut your hair.

Have the red professionally removed. Salons that use Goldwell color has a color remover that works! It must be used under heat for thirty minutes... It's a color correction process. The hair should be toned after to featured shade. Worth the price to have the professional do all the work.

I meant desired shade not featured  :-)

You probably need to go to a salon and get a soap cap done to lighten the red. red is hard to get out and I would only trust a pr ofessional don't do it yourself or you will damage your hair.

Go to a salon and get it done. don't listen to most of these. color removers are very damaging and dying it black to get rid of red doesn't help because thats even harder to remove. and yes red is a removable color. all colors are removeable some are just harder then others. now if you don't want to go to a salon here's my suggestion. and just for reference I am a licensed cosmetologist. your hair needs to be toned with a green toner. whatever level you have on your hair now you can get a green toner in that level from sallys I'm sure. and If you can get ahold of some professional color I think joico has a green based color you can use as a toner. if you can't find green get a blue and a yellow toner and mix them and put that on your hair. if it isnt the desired color yet.. get whatever color you want but make sure it is ash if your hair still has some red to it.. btw your going to need to watch the toner and take it off when you don't see any red left in your hair. probably about 15 maybe 20 min. hope this was helpful.
