How do y'all achieve the look? I seen a picture where someone took sections of their hair and twisted it up then ran the flat iron down it.. well apparently I did something wrong because it didn't work at all.. are there other ways? tips and suggestions are welcome. thanks!

Youtube is the easiest way to find out, it's pretty hard to explain haha! But I'll try.
You take a section of hair and clamp down the flat iron at the top. Turn the iron 90 degrees in the direction away from your head. Turn it back so it's flat again. Now turn the iron 90 degrees towards your head, then back to flat position.
I don't think that made any sense lol. But youtube, girl. Youtube. Lol

This is my go to style when I do use a flat iron I never just straighten it. I see my friends trying and the mistake they make is treating the flat iron like a curling iron and wrapping the hair around it and trying to pull down or sometimes just letting the flat iron stay in one place. All you have to do is place a section in the flat iron just as if you were going to straighten it. Then pull down down and slowly start to twist flat iron. The closer you get to the ends of your hair the more you will be able to twist the flat iron. The results are not the same as using a curling iron. It will be more like straight on top and wavy on bottom. But I like it.

I tried it also and it didn't work. From what I've heard you actually have to braid your hair first then run a flat iron over it. I've never tried it that way but maybe you could. Best of luck.

Braiding then running a straightener over it, works well. I've tried it and liked the results but they didn't last long.

@Annie should they be loose or tighter braids? Hopefully I can try that myself before my straightener breaks completely.

I did mine semi tight, you don't want to make it too loose or it won't really have that wavy effect. Don't forget to section it off into 2-6 braids.

@Annie ah okay, I'll definitely need help for this method because I have very thick long hair.
