How to do a topknot/messybun!?

Everytime I try it'll look either too neat or too messy! And what's the difference between a topknot and a messy bun?? Thanks!!

A topknot is usually wrapped tightly and looks like, well, a knot. A bun is usually more voluminous. I'd say try doing it on second day hair or if your hair is a little wavy or curled. Wrap it up like you would for the "neat" version but using less tension and securing it either with fewer pins or just wrapping your elastic without paying attention :p.

Maybe if you want it too fell more messy use your fingers to comb it up and pull a few strands loose to frame your trace. You can also use a wide brush

Messy buns look best with textured hair. Try it the day after you curl your hair or have waves. Top knots wear best with second day straighter hair.
