What type of braces do you have (or have you had)? I'm thinking about getting braces but I've been doing some research and don't know which one is the best (just curious as to what your experience has been). I have a slight overbite and crowded teeth, the orthodontist says I need the "Herbst devise" which is terrifying lol does anyone have one? I know there's metal, ceramic, damon, In-Ovation. What are your experiences?

I have no idea what any odd those words mean :)
I had metal braces if that helps at all, with rubber bands to keep the wire on
Totally worth it (pain)
I have plastic mold retainers

I have metal braces right now , and there not bad. It wasn't painful when they put them on , but you might get pain days after because your teeth are moving. But then you get used to it and in the end it'll be worth it :) hope that helped you

There's not really such thing as different braces.. I think you mean different procedures. A lot of people's are so different. I have braces rn and I had an under bite As well as bad canines, lol. They're worth it though, definitely. I still have about 11 months and mine look sooo much better. It's amazing to see the progress. Also, I had to get my jaw expanded, and had a lock/key thing on roof of my mouth for two months! It sucked lol, and I had a small arch for the past several months too and got it taken off a few days ago. So happy. Ah, long message. Best of luck to you 😊

Thanks! @emily m. Did it move your jaw forward (or restrict your jaw) every time you chewed or talked? That's what I'm kind of scared of, because I have lock jaw/TMJ and my jaw is always messed up.

I had the general metal braces. Had it on for a 1 1/2 years. They had me have the neck gear and rubber bands to help my overbite.. Didn't do much of a difference but its not necessary since you can't tell. I'm so glad I got them before high school. Do it!

^ I think you're talking about invisiline haha :) but I had braces for 2 years and had a really bad overbite, but they we're totally worth all the pain and I get compliments in my teeth all the time now. :)

It was defiantly weird at first, but you get used to it. I used to have TMJ too! It didn't effect me at all. I'm British though, so my teeth were really bad! Had braces for 5 years!

I had regular braces with a "Fred" spring in the side. I also had a little chain connected to an extra tooth that was growing out of my gums. It was there so it could be pulled down into place. Had to get a tooth pulled to make room for it. Gosh, I got them off two years ago! I have two permanent retainers now. I'm so glad I had braces, as much as I hated them. They've made my life a lot better in the long run

@emily m. do you still have tmj, like did the braces and herbst fix it or is it the same?
@cassidy l. are the permanent retainers the ones they glue to your back teeth?
