Is it fading to silver in two months, or just a shade or two? Because its it's only a few shades, that's good. You will only get about two months out of a SEMI perm dye. But I like to let mine sit for about five hours or even overnight. Also wash in colder water, and add a tiny bit of the dye into your conditioner.

Also, a different bend might just work better with your hair type. Raw, special effects, and directions are also great dyes.

Are you using the AMPLIFIED Cream Formula? It does last longer then the classic manic panic.

I'm a little late on this post, but if you were up for giving a different product a try, I'd extremely recommend Splat! I use it all the time, and the color can last a month with no major fading, and two months with a shade lighter in fading :)

yes i am using the amplified and it does last significantly longer than the original :)
personally i do not like splat. ive used it and it looked bad on me. and my mom has had to fix a lot of splat colors at her salon. she's also looking into manic panic alternatives because my head is her test subject :/ :)

Are you bleaching your hair blonde or coloring down to a base color? I have been using a vampire red/ultra violet mix for years. I used to bleach, but then I started using Loreal High Color Highlights in magenta. Having a pink/red base doesn't so much keep the manic panic from fading, as it makes the fade less noticeable. Obviously, it's only going to work for certain colors, red and purple really, but if that is what your using usually you might want to give it a try.

I have turquoise hair currently, it washes out pretty heavy the first week but at some points plateaus and stays at a nice blue for weeks. It not really "fading" just washing out dye that was never washed out to begin with. I use N'Rage try it, I'd love to see what your mom thinks. http://www.sallybeauty.com/n-rage/NRAGE2,default,pd.html?cgid=Hair05

Gabrielle - don't just use cold water after conditioner. Using warm or hot water before putting shampoo in opens the pores in your hair and lets your shampoo get in and rinse out more color. Only let cold water touch your hair! And switch to a 100% sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, they don't strip your hair as harshly as regular ones do.

Splat lasts a really long time it took me forever to get it out of my hair.
