I suppose I should specify what I view as "emo" -overly tight jeans, seriously dramatic side part with extremely short layers on long hair, etc. emo, to me, is very different a farm goth vampy look-which I love.

Why is it even called emo? It's more like goth. Emo is Jimmy Eat World when they came out and the style that went with that type of music.

Pictures posted here were not emo. Emo was always dirty black hair, rimmed glasses, sweaters and like...corduroy and sauconys to me. The picture of that...girl...up there is soooooo not emo.

I don't feel Emo or goth is original at all lol. How is something original if its a trend? If you like it, that's great! I just hate when people use the excuse that they're "original" or that everyone else is too "normal" lol it's just a joke. Like what you like. Wear what you want, dress how you want. Just don't try and say you're more creative, original or "not a robot" or anything else. Your still following society. Just the part of society you find comfort in. Others find comfort in other parts of society. Some with no makeup, some with Barbie makeup and every other type of outlet that exists.

People don't like it because its "different", they don't like it because they all look the same...

P.s "emo" is not a style of dress. It's derived from the word "emotional" and the genre of music started with bands like the get up kids, weezer and Juliana theory. The sweaters, the black framed glasses, and the younger generation turned it into something else, when bands started fusing sappy love lyrics and melodies with hardcore drops and screaming, hence the term "screamo". Just FYI ;)

And not Everyone who wears black is "emo", Rebella. My closet is full of black clothes, but all designer (Chanel, Dior, MiuMiu, etc). Black is the new "34" ;)

I think it's just been SO overdone and doesn't give a classy, approachable look to people.

Weezer is not emo. There way back from early to mid 90s when emo wasnt even a word.

The people that hate it only do so because they need to feel better about themselves. By being mean to someone else they make themselves feel superior. And because that style is not widely accepted and the "norm" it is easy for everyone to jump on the hate bandwagon :( it is so stupid to me! Everyone has a different style and that is what makes them unique and interesting!

Because it is associated with cutting so it is frowned upon in society because any emo band is accused of promoting sadness and self harm.

Weezer is what set off the "emo" fad! If you were part of the scene, you would know that "emo" was a word, it's only been in recent years that its meaning has changed, Patricia P.we can debate this all day but this is not a music site ;)

I'm a big fan of the 'scene' look... I used dress scene, but haven't for a long time. I do still love it though, just the hair, the Makeup and the style... Ahh memories!
