I'd try NYC's Sunny bronzer- it's a bit on the orange side but not too bad. Or of you're willing to pay more, everyone love benefit's hoolah bronzer.
For a highlighter, hard candy apparently has a bronzer than actually high lights quite well, but I can remember the name :( and MAC's soft and gentle is another I believe.
As for blush, NYX, ELF, and Wet N Wild have amazing blushes for amazing prices :) higher end: NARS blushes

I would not get a white highlighter if I were either of you. You should find a highlighter that compliments your undertones.

Tips for contouring/highlighting:
-less is more
-blend blend blend!
-use the "duck face" to find the hollows of your cheek bones and apply your bronzer there first
-smile slightly to find the apples of your cheeks (the round part of your cheeks) and apply blush there and back towards your hair line/temple.
-apply your highlighter starting from the iris back towards your temple.
-bleeeeeend haha
-find good brushes..they WILL help. Perhaps Real Techniques or Sigma
If you have any questions, let me know!
