I've recently taken up makeup as a hobby and way to feel more put together after letting myself go during pregnancy and the first few months of my daughters life. Time to step it up! What's your favorite makeup tips & tricks?

Congrats on your little girl! I'm new also to the more advanced makeup and would really recommend going on YouTube and checking out 'gossmakeupartist' he has the most amazing videos from tips and tricks, to what makeup to buy and not to buy.

Start with your eyes first.
I always start with the eyes first. I do the eyebrows and eyeshadow mainly. Then I continue to do the face, primer, foundation and so on.
Once I'm done powdering the face I go back in with the eyes. I touch up, I put the eyeliner on, and do whatever it is I'm going to do to the bottom lash line.
I honestly hope that made sense.
I start with eyes and finish with the eyes.

You don't need a top of the line brush kit, but you do need some decent brushes. Look at the Up and Up Brand from Target. Get a shader brush, a crease brush and blending brush. You also need a blush brush (real techniques makes a fantastic one) and a powder brush. Clean them using 2 IN 1 shampoo and conditioner and a solvent based conditioning cleanser. Brushes make even the worst makeup perform at it's best.
