HEY GUYS SO I AM GETTING MY HAIR DYED FOR THE FIRST TIME TOMORROW! and I'm going for the whole ombre thing.
I have dark brown skin and black hair and I want to go for like brown/ blondey brown ombre but have no idea what that would look like! I've posted a post about what colour I should do and most replies were red but I'm not someone who can rock red :(
also I straighten my hair ever day. is it bad to straighten hair when its been dyed? I have short a-line bob so I'm worried about killing the ends of my hair because well thats pretty much all my hair.
also, I think ombre looks cool curled, so would it also be harmful to curl it with a curling wand?
SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS BUT PLEASE HELP!
thanks guys! :)

I have had my hair dyed, bleached, damaged, etc. and the number one advice I will tell you is if you take care of your hair you can do whatever you want to it. I've bleached mine probably like 5 -7 times and it's still really healthy because I take precautions to keeping it that way. Horse shampoo is my best friend. Along with leave in conditioner, and also giving your hair a heal from curling our straightening a few days out of the week at least.

I agree with Candace. As long as you look after your hair it will cooperate with you. I have had my hair died, bleached and use to straighten my hair everyday. Surprisingly the hairdressers still say my hair is really healthy. Just as long as you use a good shampoo and conditioner along with a good leave in treatment in your hair once a week , it should be ok. I would suggest maybe after you dye it don't heat style it for a couple of days so your hair can process the colour. You should post a pic once you have it dyed. Sure it will look great on you.

I actually went through the same thing. Virgin hair to start with, it being as dark as your, and then getting the ombre. I went and got it done twice. First time it came out like a gradient from black to light brown. Reason why was because it being so dark and never touched by chemicals, it didn't lift much. The second time I went, it went from kinda what you want, dark brown blending into blondish brown but mines a lot lighter cuz that's what I wanted. All I could suggest is take care of your hair the way you normally would, and since its going to be bleached, invest in a good violet shampoo to lighten and remove brassy tones just I case. Really long answer but there you go :D good luck!

What shampoos and leave in conditioners do you ladies reccommend?
Is purple shampoo only if the ombré turns to blonde or?

Right now I'm using Living proof restore hair mask. hair masks are very good, basically a once or twice a week leave in treatment. For shampoos and conditioners, If you wanna save money, aveeno is good. If you don't care about prices, Rusk or Macadamia are great. Purple shampoo is just to remove any orangey or brassy tones on the ombre part of your hair. it'll lighten it but not so much as to change your light brown hair to blonde immediately. no need to worry lol good luck again! ;)

Was there any thing I had to watch out for when buying shampoos and conditioners?
Is the living proof hair mask good? How often do you use it? Thanks! I'm still so nervous because if it goes wrong I can't cut it off because my hairs too short!

Not too sure about things to watch out for. Yeah, the hair masks great, especially for recently damaged hair. I live in Canada so at the Sephora it costed me about $50. Pricey I guess, but its worth it. I only use it twice a week since it says so on the label. I wouldn't do anymore than that being it might weigh down your hair since conditioner does that sometimes. After styling, it feels revived and weightless. Oh yeah, and how exactly short is your hair? you wouldn't want the ombre to start higher if your hair is already short.

I'd say from your ear down would be your best bet since its short. Unless you like the ingrown roots look, that's what it'd most likely resemble if you go any higher. When your hair grows out (if you plan to) you can get it redone to suit you more. I'll come back for the after shot! It'll look good, especially for it being a change for you. Its summerish! Your from Australia? I'd assume its always sunny and hot there so it'd look like your hair was sunkissed and give it a beachy vibe if you curled it. I'd say safest way to curl would to braid it then release the braid after awhile. That's my routine if I'm not using any heat just to be on the safe side. Just an extra tip ;)

Yeah I think I'm going to try growing my hair out again though I do love short hair you can do more with long :P
Well it's winter right now in Australia so pretty much no sun :(
Waves from braids do not like my hair at all because my hair is curly but the frizzy kind :(
I'm not sure what I'm going to do! Planning on asking my hairdresser what she thinks :)

Thanks so much for all the help! I have no idea about anything haha. I'm almost 20 and have never really "experimented" with my hair so I thought I better get something out of my teens :P.

I think just making sure you purchase a colour treating shampoo and conditioner that way it holds colour longer. Possibly even a sulfate free one. As I know sulfates can be very drying.
