I wear hair extensions every day and they are not noticeable at all, I recommend clip in human hair extensions as you can use heat on them, colour them and of course wash them, the only downside is that sometimes when hair is in a pony, the clips are visible underneath but if you get a colour match the clips won't look too noticeable, and yes they hold well in water and don't come off from swimming :)

If you want to swim or surf in them youll need to consider bonded extensions (with keratin or metal clamps) or a sewn in weave. but honestly 'permanent' extensions like that require a more delicate lifestyle. I would recommend clip ins or halos. my personal favorite are halos. they're super easy to get on and off and are made from human hair too. these can go in water but it shortens their longevity.
