So my nails are very long since recently I kicked my nail biting habit. But the past few days I've had 2 nails split on the sides and they've broken off. :( I'm also taking hair, nails, and skin vitamins. So what the actual..? Any help on what I could do to prevent this? Preferably some time of nail strengthening home remedy considering I'm pretty poor at the moment. Thanks.

I heard rubbing your nails with lemon or lemon juice. I know people who do it and say it works but personally I've never tried it

I use one of those nail buffers with multiple sides and give myself a good manicure weekly. I use the nail buffer and a clear nail polish called nutra nail with green tea. You can find it at Walmart. My nails never break.

Chopping up garlic and adding it to a clear polish is supposed to be a cheap diy strengthening treatment

You got go keep filing them down (it's a long process) but as the new nail grows, it's stronger (just like when you cut hair!), even if its a couple of swipes a day on the nail, you'll notice over the next few weeks of doing so, your nails feel firmer and stronger and you won't need to file them down as much so they will eventually get longer again! It doesn't even take that long 😊 xx
