I keep reading where people are applying makeup in their bathrooms, toting their makeup around in a case.
A vanity doesn't have to be a big deal. It can even double as a writing desk or even taken down, but a place to sit elegantly, a place to rest your elbow while using it as a fulcrum while doing your eyeliner, a well lit area (all you need is a single full spectrum bulb, and a place that you can be calm and relax.
I think it's a right of passage for every teenager to get their own little space to do their beauty routine, that isn't the same place they defecate.
It really doesn't have to be fancy. It just needs to be YOURS.

Mine is just a reclaimed bookcase. I am all about thrift, I was broke before it was hip. My house is a conglomeration of dumpster diving and thrift shop. My vanity before this was a desk we picked up from the side of the road because some college students were moving and left it on the curb. It's been repurposed into a work table for an indoor metal shop.
The reason the bathroom is bad is because the humidity and bacteria can actually ruin your makeup and cause your mascara and other 'moist' products go bad before their time. It's better to do it near a window or with a full spectrum bulb. You can get a vanity set up for free from stuff around the house. :)

I agree Melanie! I bought a desk from Goodwill with drawers on the side of $10 and I spray painted it black and use it as a vanity :) Before that I was just using this bench thing to store my makeup in little buckets, which wasn't exactly working. Every morning I'd have to bring all the products I was using to the bathroom and then back to my room again when I was done. I love having a vanity now but it's unfortunately in the darkest corner of my room lol. Do you have any suggestions for some cheap / natural looking lighting I could buy? Thanks girl!

Any desk lamp will work, what you need is a full spectrum bulb. You will be able to see your makeup how it will look outdoors. Most bathrooms have either a regular compact fluorescent light set up which is very unnatural or a warm light from incandescent bulbs. Then you get that "!" look when you look in the rearview mirror. http://www.homedepot.com/p/EcoSmart-27-Watt-100W-Full-Spectrum-Craft-CFL-Light-Bulb-ES5M827FS/100687004#.UfCO1vnviSo This one is the one we have, I have 3 of them in that torch lamp, but I am going to go to a mid sized single bulb on each side of my face.

I know personally that I just don't have the space; a vanity requires a mirror which I do not h ave the money or space for. But for everyone that can get one its great! Just wanted to share another perspective :)
