I went to a salon 4 weeks ago to dye my hair a dark red and get a trim and now my roots are out and my hair is faded. Is it too soon to go back? What is the normal time span for a trim and dye?

I honestly get mine done anywhere from 3-6 weeks depending on how cranky I am lol.

Because it costs so much each time to get a cut and color I go every 3-6 months... I use a nonsulfate shampoo to keep my red color.

What do you use to wash your hair that could fade your color but every 4-6 weeks

I do mine every four weeks. Not because it fades, but because my roots grow out.

Hi I'm a cosmetologist! red in notorious for fading fast and being hard to get rid of. when you go in talk to your stylist about your hair products and theyll be able to recommend something specific for you.
generally though you need to be using a sulfate free shampoo, wash it in cold water and mixing in a few drops of red food dye to your shampoo and/or conditioner is not a bad idea either. you could also get a semi or demi red dye and mix it with shampoo or conditioner and appy it all over between visits to fight fading. if you do this be sure not to get it on your roots though bc it could cause the hair to have a dark band in it later on.

Oh that happens all the time with Red... what you need to do is dye it each time the roots are like 5mm long (my hair doesn't grow fast so I dye it each 5weeks or so). When you dye it don't use shampoo for a week, and don't get it wet for the first 2days. Also, if you always stick to the same tone for over 4 dyes the color won't fade away that much.

Thanks for the info everyone. I use dove shampoo so I will look for a sulfate free one instead. I try to shampoo every other day and use dry shampoo but sometimes I'm too oily.

Using permanent over and over again all over your hair will make it very hard to change it so I don't recommend that. use demis on your previously dyed hair.
