My 4 yr old daughter has long naturally curly hair and is VERY tender headed. One hair stylist combs her hair out before shampooing it which pretty much tortures her. It's much easier although, still a chore to comb through her hair when it's wet.
Another stylist says it's not necessary to comb out before shampooing. Any thoughts?
Also, I'm blowing through products trying to find something that will work well on her hair. Currently using Mixed Chicks for Kids products although they don't seem to work as well as they did when I first started using them. Maybe I'm using too much or not enough. Haven't tried the Deep Conditioner for adults yet and plan on doing so tomorrow.
Her hair looks so long and pretty when it's wet. As soon as it dries...here comes the frizz and it shrinks up like a sponge. Help!

You should comb her hair out after you apply conditioner, then let the conditioner sit for as long as possible before rinsing.

I agree with Seeta.
If you comb curly hair out dry you're going to have considerably more breakage.

Buy one of those spray in detanglers. I've heard the tangle teezer is excellent for tangles. There's already post on that product if you wanted to see more info

I had the same problem but that changed when I started using its a 10 leave in plus a brush called "the wet brush". That brush is amazing. My daughter would complain a lot more before I starting using it. Now theirs barely any, I even got my nieces hooked on them. Not sure how they work but detangling while the hair is wet is so much easier with these things. My hair is down to my waist and I swear by these things to. I got mine at cosmoprof, but you can get them on amazon too. Not many things I swear by, but this is one of them!

Only comb her hair out with conditioner in it after shampooing. Curly hair should never be combed while dry. You should try air drying her hair while it is up in braids over night, take out the braids in the morning and that will eliminate a lot of frizz. Also, Carol's Daughter mimosa hair honey is thee BEST de-frizzer I've found. A little of it goes a long way.

Also, invest in a seamless comb. THIS DOES WONDERS for detangling. You have to buy them on sites that specifically sell them. Never seen them in stores or on Amazon. Google it to see reviews and how wonderful they are.

Thanks for all the info ladies! I thought combing hair while it's dry was not a good idea. The best way to let it dry is another challenge. I normally braid it while it's wet and let it air dry. My stylist said I should let it air dry and then braid it. I did this and after my daughter had her hands in it playing and running all around all day it was a tangled mess. Now I have to wet it again to comb it back out.
My stylist said if I let her hair dry in the braids it could get moldy and smell. It does seem like I have to wash her hair more to get it smelling good which is probably drying it out. Augh!

Thanks again for the info. Combing it out wet is definitely easier. I have to wet it a couple of times as the ends dry out so fast and just snap back. I have something similar to the wet brush and it does help. Thanks for the link Leslie. I'll try the seamless comb also Shannon and the mimosa hair honey.
Love the info ladies!
