So I've have to question, what's the best way to get nail polish to stay on? I use a base coat (ORLY I think or OPI), but it still peels and chips quickly anyway. Is there something I'm doing wrong or something else I should buy?

Always wash your hands with soap water after you removed the nail polish.using a base coat helps but make sure you paint two layers of the nail polish in thin layers. when you're done, follow it with a top coat. that should help :)

See, I use the top coat on my nails as well, but still I get maybe two or three days max. But I'll try the hand washing and give the Revlon top coat a try. Thank you!

It's probably a problem with the polish if a quality base and top coat isn't working. I used OPI too and it chipped so quickly.

Well, I agree it can be caused by bad quality of polish but you can try to put top coat again after few days (sometimes I do it at 3rd day)

Same thing happens to me, I use my hands roughly I guess! 2-3 days max of nice nails then they peel or chip usually when I wash my hair (strands of hair slide under the dang polish and lift it at the ends :/ ) or use the alcohol hand sanitizer which I do ALL day long at work.
but! if you really like a color, you could get your nails done shellac. the place I went to had all OPI colors which is common, and was $30. semi expensive, but worth it to last 2-3 weeks instead of days! girls at work had them stay for 3 or so weeks without problems. I just had it done friday (so this is day 2 and a half lol) and they still look fresh. they're a process to remove tho becauase its so strong.

Top coat every few days helps:)

If it peels off very soon it's probably because of your cuticles. Go for a medicure every month or two so that your cuticles are pushed back. Your nail polishes won't peel so easily after that. And as for the chipping part, you can reapply top coat every 2 or 3 days to refresh your nails. They'll stay better with that. :)

Wrapping the tips of your nails with polish (and top coat) should help with the chipping.
