You can use a leave in cream conditioner- the one I use is from Vitaponte and is fairly cheap and it calms your hair but is gentler than a mousse and gives glossy, big curls when hair is curled :)

There is lots a product you can buy to give your hair volume, which you'll need. Make sure your hair isn't too dry. Have it moisturized, but not greasy. Use a larger curl iron. And take small pieces at a time.
