I am a MAC freelance artist and you do not need to be certified/ or have a makeup degree. This is a common misconception. If you have one, it wouldn't hurt, but I do not recommend you spend tons of money on one for a counter job. They usually like you to have some kind of artistic background. I highly recommend you bring in a professional portfolio with about 10 photos of your most current work. They also like you to have some retail experience or customer service. Hope this helps!

You don't need any experience or education in cosmetics. just go in and apply.

When you go into apply, try to talk to a manager. Be very personable, make sure you are really well groomed with flawless makeup, because this is their first impression. My application was actually recreating an ad in a magazine (instead of day to night) and demonstrating my knowledge and sales skills while doing it, as if the model was a real customer.

like what the other ladies have said, you dont need any type of schooling to work at mac. i currently work for mac right now, and all you have to do really is know how to do makeup on others. go into your mac counter, look very trendy and presentable, ask for the manager, give them your resume, and then continue just call up on your resume. after that you will get your interview and a makeup interview. pretty simple.

they ask pretty standard interview questions. questions like why do you want to work for mac? why do you like mac? why should we choose you to work for us? questions like that. pretty simple, just be yourself is the most important thing.
