Red is the most difficult to keep vibrant. Seriously, I've had a lot of time and money into my hair lol. If its the first time you've dyed your hair this color, you'll probably need to refresh the color, basically go over it again with more dye. It's going to take a few tries to get it to stick, and even then the maintenance can be exhausting. When you do dye it again, take a good amount of extra dye and mix it with a color shampoo. I use Joico K-Pak (it smells a-mazing and makes my crappy hair super soft!) and use it daily to help keep up the color.

Thanks Shelby. Will all of my hair be one color if I do that? My roots are extremely grown out now and my natural is a really dark brunette.

Haley it will be slightly different, but within a few days should even out. For me, (as gross at it is) I didn't shower for four days or more. Try to stay away from leave in products as they can sap the color right out, and use a good color conditioner too.

@Erika Thanks! I love the color too. I wouldnt recommend getting it the way that I did though. it left me with a lot of damage lol. But I used Splat. I followed the directions on the box which told me to bleach it which was a big mistake. It was a SUPERRR bright red and then when I woke up the next morning it was bright pink so I had to put on a hat and run to walmart and get a more toned down red to even I out. I think I went over it with garnier hair dye number R3 I think.

I'll definitely look into what Shelby said. It makes the most sense. I couldn't find anything on the internet about it.

I suggest instead of nasty box color you use Henna. Not the henna you buy at ULTA that has all the nasty stuff in it, but NATURAL henna. it naturally redeems your hair and makes it deeper each time. also when it fades it doesn't leave a brassy look, it fades evenly back to your natural with just a reddish tone. it is seriously the beat thing I've ever done to my hair, and it is completely healthy!

Wash your hair with cool water, use sulfate free shampoo, and if you're using a semi permanent color mix some of it in with your conditioner. Also, don't wash it everyday.

DO NOT use henna, you'll never be able to get it out! My friend put henna in her hair a few years ago and no stylist would put any color or bleach on her hair because it will turn funky colors! One lady took on the challenge and bleached it out and it was a peachy orange color and she couldn't get it to a neutral color, she had to color it dark and cut a lot off. Her ends still have a bit of the henna on and is super damaged. Go to sallys and pick up some red color, the roux refresh mask in fire red and a sulfate free color safe shampoo!
