They use a piercing gun. It only hurts for a few seconds but its worth it! If you go to Claire's you might request for someone who has done it many times. Make sure they clean your ears and the the gun before they pierce them! Otherwise you could get an infection.

I was really scared to get mine done at different shops because of the amount of infections people get. So what I did is I went to Sally's beauty store and bought a kit. It has a gun and a cartridge. I had a little help but all you do is put it in an pull the trigger. It pierces with the earring so all you have to do it clean them with rubbing alcohol.

Apparently I got mine done at a mall kiosk when I was little, then the hole closed. I got it done again at Claire's with the gun at about 16yrs old. And it was perfectly fine. Didn't hurt. Two years later it's still perfectly fine! But don't get them done just because your friends have theirs. Only do it for yourself.

...You are NOT supposed to use a gun ever on any piercing. Guns can't be put into an autoclave to be sterilized! And using a gun pierces your ear with a blunt force rather than a clean cut removing all the tissue with a needle. Seriously girl whatever you do go to an actual piercer (not Claires) who has actual piercing experience and knowledge, and get it pierced with a 14g needle, clean it with a saline solution, not Bactine :)

I got three of my ear piercings with a gun. Both are perfectly fine. All you have to do is keep it clean. Definitely use the ear cleaning solution they give you, everyday. My friend did one of my ear piercings. It may just be my ears but mine have never been infected. Its not that big of a deal, just your ears.

If you get it pierced with a gun it can mess up your cartilage. It's best to go to a tattoo shop. Or you can use a cow needle. They're super sharp so it doesn't hurt for a long time. You can put your earring on the needle and it'll go in right away.

Get it done with a needle. It's more sterile and the person using the needle instead of the gun will have better knowledge of what they're doing. You'll have higher quality jewellery put it at an actual piercer also so there's less chance of yours ears becoming irritated by it.

Yes! Everything they Grace K said is absolutely true! I am a certified body modification artist and would NEVER recommend a piercing gun! Only difference is, I would recommend a 16-18g needle because regular earrings are way smaller than a 14g. Unless you plan on stretching your ear lobes (and that's a whole different ball park), do not get pierced with a 14g. It will take longer to shrink to the size of your basic earring. Always do research on your local piercing studio before putting your body in someone else's hands! Make sure they are sterile, certified and well respected. Don't go looking for cheap deals! Trust me when I say, you get what you pay for. And do not attempt to change your jewelry for at least 2 weeks or until piercings are healed. You will have to wear basic, surgical steal piercing jewelry for the first two weeks. Good luck! Feel free to email me with any questions regarding this topic queenapology@gmail.com.

When I was 9 my mom took me to a plastic surgeon to get them pierced. She used a needle and it was pretty painless, the only pain was the numbing.

I got my second holes done in January at Claire's they did use a gun I watched her sterilize it before and after my piercing and it took 2 weeks for it to heal.

Exactly what hope p said, do not get it done at claires with a gun! go to an actual piercer in a tattoo shop! I got my doubles done at claires and they were so uneven, and they can't sterilize the guns.
