You use it to do the nail art not to just paint your nails. it's safe. a lot of nail techs in shops use it.

I've used it before to do an orange ombré on my nails. After many failed attempts to do an ombré with nail polish, I was so happy with the results using acrylic paint :) for the best staying power, definitely use a base coat and apply 2 coats of top coat. When I did this my ombré lasted for two weeks. Good luck and definitely post a pic if you decide to try it :)
