Has anyone had a bad reaction to using coconut oil as a moisturizer on face or as a face wash?

Maybe try diluting it with water? Could be that your skin is sensitive.

Coconut oil is not good to use on your face as it can block pores and cause breakouts. Try almond oil as an alternative :-)

Extra virgin coconut oil doesn't usually cause break outs. It is so pure that it soaks in well that is the whole key to using it as a beauty product. It absolutely Has to be extra virgin cold pressed. It make all the difference.

Not to discount what you said Tiffany. you never know what kind of reaction your skin will have to new things.

I've never had a bad reaction and I use it every night as a moisturizer. I never broke out or anything. I did notice that when I first started using it my face became dry easily if I didn't use the coconut oil consistently. However after using it for a few weeks that's stopped and my skin feels nice :)

Coconut oil is a penetrative oil so it doesn't clog your pores or face. It's possible you could be allergic. I use it as a makeup remover and its a part of my shea butter mixture.

Yes, I have. The only time I *ever* get acne, even if it's just one tiny little pimple, is when I use coconut oil on my face. I've always used organic, extra-virgin, cold pressed coconut oil and it still caused pimples. I use it as an eye makeup remover because it does not cause any problems for the skin around my eyes, but I wash it off immediately and I never use it all over my face (anymore, at least). I have dry, clear skin and I have never had an issue with acne, not even when I was a teenager. It feels nice on my skin but it somehow causes zits to pop up, even if it's just a few small ones. I understand that a lot of people who are more prone to acne than I am (and most people are) use it and love it, I am not trying to discredit their experiences with it, but my own experiences have not been as good. The only way you will know if it will work for your skin is if you try it yourself.

I use grapeseed oil to remove makeup as it helps with acne.

I used to apply organic coconut oil to my face at night until I started getting extremely dry scaly, then irritated skin - it felt somewhat like sandpaper. I stopped using it but it took time before my skin returned to normal. This past Christmas I bought some soap from an acquaintances' business and didn't think to read the ingredient list. After a couple of weeks of using it on my body (I use something else on my face), I started getting dry scaly, irritated skin on my arms and legs. I had bought a bar of the same soap to gift to someone which still had the ingredient list on it and the #1 ingredient? Coconut oil! Doesn't work for me but I do know someone else who uses it daily and has beautiful skin.
