Tell me about your decision to go to cosmetology school, your experience during school, and job placement following the completion of your initial training!

I started because I was always interested in making people look and feel beautiful, I was the kid who always had bald barbies and was always in trouble for getting into scissors and my grandmas makeup. I'm currently still in school but I love it! It isn't easy that's for sure, but it is SO worth it, I love what I do, and I. Love the fact I will continue to learn new things and continue my education until I retire!

Thanks Nichole! You sound very passionate. The reason I ask is because I am really interested in going to cosmo school. I love doing make up and playing with hair has always been fun for me. My ultimate job would be working in a salon and doing event hair and make up on the side. I wanted to hear about other peoples experiences so I could see where other people are coming from and what they went through. I think hearing different stories will help me make the decision as to whether or not this is the right choice for me. Nichole, your post made me so much more excited and put a huge smile on my face so I think maybe I'm on the right track!

Just remember if you do decide to go (which you totally should) it's not only hair and make up, you learn biology (all aspects from diseases, skin disorders, nutrition, layers of the skin, what hair skin and balls are made up of etc.etc.etc!) Chemicals, proper

Sorry hit post too early.. but proper cleaning sterilization and sanitization I could go on, but it's so rewarding!! I just don't want you to jump in and think your going to jump in hand on and start cutting your mannequin and doing your friends makeupand getting discouraged.

I loved Cosmo school, it was amazing! So much to learn and I ditto what Nichole C said you will learn a lot, be prepared for that. I had wonderful instructors & as for the job placement- most of the time different salon companies will come in and give a presentation on the way their particular salon is run.We had Creative Nail, Great Clips, Regis, etc. and you also get to attend hair shows ( love, love, love those)
You have oh so many hours to complete varies by state. You have to take a state board exam- once you pass- you get your license. When I got my license I started job hunting. In school they suggest you scope out the salon you are interested in working in. Ask the manager for tour meet the people you could potentially work with. See how clients react to their stylists, etc...

I agree with Alexis, It's important not to just apply makeup well, but really know the industry and its practices. Where are you from? There is an awesome school in New York called CHIC STUDIOS!
We have Small Class-sizes, Intensive Curriculums, Highly Trained Instructors & The “Chic Community”, which includes freelance opportunities, career development, hiring fairs for cosmetic retailing with top brands like MAC, Sephora, and Macy’s, complimentary 'Power Hour' training workshops, networking events and much more!
We also work with brands like: Makeup Forever, NARS, Laura Mercier, BH Cosmetics, MAC Cosmetics, Eve Pearl, Graftobian, Cinema Secrets, Bobbi Brown, Smashbox and many others.
You should really look into it! --> www.chicstudiosnyc.com or contact christina@chicstudiosnyc.com for more questions! :)
