I don't recommend cutting your hair often I think it's a little bit of an urban myth I have never found that my hair grows faster when I'm trimming it all the time but it does keep it healthy so if your dealing with damaged hair then definitely get regular trims. My hair is past my waist and sits almost at my hip but it has taken me about 7 years to get it that long. Keep in mind that everybody has a maximum length point which is just where your body doesn't really let your hair get longer then a certain point.
It's more then possible to get long locks but it will take time. My BIGGEST tip for long hair is to Restrain from washing. wash your hair Twice a week if you can and use dry shampoo!

Trimming your hair about every 6 weeks will help your hair grow. Trimming the ends stimulates growth whithin the hair shaft. Washing your hair has nothing to do with your hair growing. As long as your not using tons of heat there's no reason why your shouldn't be growing!
