I think it depends on how it's worn. If you put it up in a tight bun or ponytail, it could cause breakage due to the friction between your head and the pillow tugging on your hair. But if you gather it up with a loose scrunchie and sleep on a silk pillowcase or use a silk cap, it won't cause as much breakage.

I either wear my hair down or in a bun... I used to have a lot of breakage on the side I sleep on until I got satin pillow cases.
