Any tips/tricks -- other than primer and setting spray?
For me I find less makeup or thin layering works really well AND run an ice cube over your face before moisturizer, primer etc

Make sure your primer and foundation/bb cream, both are either oil free or with oil. If that makes sense! Lol!

Wait at least 10 min between moisturizer, primer and product application like foundation. also use alike products together to make it last, if you use water based products and primer then use silicone foundation it won't stick well, but silicone and silicone will attract and bind together to create a lasting bond. also blend and blend some more then take a barely wet sponge and pat all over to press in and set the foundation, then do the same with a powder and lightly roll and pat powder over it to set it and it will look fab and last so much longer. also don't touch your face during the day! :-D xx hope that helps, hugs

Primer gives something for foundation to 'stick to', so it doesn't slide and fade. A good fixer keeps it in place all day, like one from mac or skindinivia.
