What is the difference and which one is better? I am getting my nails done this weekend and the tech suggested I get Solar instead of Acrylic, but only said they were "better" with no explanation. Your opinions would be appreciated.

Regina, I have always had solor nails. When I had them done, I had the French. She used a pink n white powder. I really do not now the difference between the two. I am going back to getting my nails done soon and I will have the solor nails done.

I have been told also that solar is better too. I had great experiences with my solar nails. Never any lifting etc. When you get them done, would love to see a picture. :)

Thank you Susan! I just want to make sure I am getting the best option since Solar are a little more expensive.

Your welcome Regina! And congratulations on your engagement!! You will love the solar nails. :) the solar nails are worth paying more. :)) Nothing like having really nice nails for weeks.

Thank you Susan. And also that was partly what I was wondering. How much longer do solar nails last than acrylic.

Acrylic gets dirty & changes color (yellows) but not the solar. congrats on your engagement!

Thank you very much Jana! I am super excited. I have only been engaged for a week and a half but am loving it. :) And on the nails, I haven't had acrylics in a very long time but now that you mentioned the whole yellow thing it definitely explains a lot. I had that happen and assumed it was something I did.

I could be wrong but I always heard solar was powder that they turn into a gel like substance that they form into the nail on top of your own nail and acrylic is a whole nail that is already formed and they glue on top of your nail. Like I said I could be wrong but that's always what I thought..

@Sarah- that could very well be true no matter what style you get, right? Love your nails by the way. :)

@Rachel- thanks for that info. I guess I assumed it was somewhat the same process as the acrylic. I better do more research. :)

Regina, have you tried gel polish on your natural nails? I love it. I hate the thickness and damage false nails cause. The polish lasts up to 3 weeks and stays shiny. Great alternative.

Thanks Jaune, I have not tried it yet but it seems pretty popular. Is this something that would be offered at the salon?

Solar and acrylic are exactly the same thing.
