What do you think about the whole situation with the lady suing mac cosmetics claiming that she got herpes when a makeup advisor directly applied riri woo to her lips? It's scary that not all makeup artists use correct applications in a sanitary manner. What's your thought on this?

I find it hard to believe. I.personally wouldnt let them put on lipstick directly. Others don't think about it I guess.
But now an days I wouldn't rule anything out :/

I know but you can still contract it if someone wasn't testing the lipstick in a sanitary fashion

I find this true... Although a lawsuit a bit far!... I have never had a cold sore in all my life but last year I got a makeover from a top brand and two/three days later got a cold sore... I didn't sue the company... It wasn't really loads of stress hiding for a week or so until it was gone... But I did go into the store and explained the lipstick they applied or the balm had made me contract it... They apologised and I got my money back for the makeover and they said they would take better care in future... I wouldn't dream of suing over something which isn't a big deal in my eyes...

And I still go there for makeovers but I am more wary now on the products they use.

I'm pretty sure if they gave me herpes from being unsanitary I would draw some big attenyion to it. its something that never goes away and you have to deal with the embarrassment of the whispers and odd looks when flaunting what can sometimes be a giant cold sore. some of my friends get them and it hurts me to see then so upset when they are trying their best to hide it.

But you can control how often they come back I find when I get stressed and my diet is poor it comes within a few days... Although it is embarrassing I think it isn't something worth suing over... I get them maybe once or twice a year which isn't much... I think also it isn't up to just the rep putting the makeup on another person I think us as individuals have an obligation to tell the person who is doing the makeover that we have had a cold sore before so they can take the necessary steps to ensure there sanitary procedures... Easier said then done tho I know!

I thought riri woo was an online exclusive?

I guess in a whole I just find it awful. :(( I'm sorry.
May 31, 2013

It is awful I agree but it isn't life threatening... I'm studying law and I recently tea up on a case of a life threatening condition being passed to a person on purpose... This condition brought a law suit against an individual and it was a truly awful case and experience for the person... I just try and put things in prospective... It's awful but it could be worse

No she got herpes from whoever ROD she had her mouth on not mac lipstick smh STRAP IT UP POINT BLANK.

Yeah it is up to her to tell the makeup artist she's not comfortable with the way she's applying the makeup. She also could've contracted it from a boyfriend or husband or sharing lip balm with a friend. Pretty interesting case and can't wait to see how it turns out

I think it's crazy that she's suing the company. But at the same time it's the makeup artist's fault for not using a sanitized product or application. Just because Mac is one of the biggest makeup brands in the world doesn't mean they're invincible and do nothing wrong.

They said the makeup artist applied the lipstick directly to her lips

Yeah who knows though for sure, she could be lying and just after money

I am pretty sure this will be thrown out, how is she going to able to prove she got herpes from that lipstick and that she didnt already have the virus? I do find it hard to believe that the artist would even use brushes/makeup that was used to apply make up on someone who had a cold sore they are very much to blame but this women is going to have a hard time getting any money out of this.

I find it ridiculous that she is filing a law suit against the company but taking no action against the artist. Granted, she is partially to blame for letting the artist apply the lipstick to her lips, but still! The company has nothing to do with that. If anyone wants to be sure they need to check the tube of lipstick the artist was using and see if it has traces of the disease at all.

Sarah H. I understand that a cold sore isn't that big of a deal, but the woman claims to have gotten herpes from the lipstick, and herpes is a big issue. (I'm not sure if I just read your comments a different way) but I can see wht she's attempting to sue for getting herpes. But who knows if she really dod receive it from the lipstick or ya' know other activities lol.

I think it would be very hard to prove where she got it from. It is most likely spread through human to human contact, so while the chance of getting it is there, it's pretty small. Also, by the time her viral load was high enough to actually have symptoms (cold sore) it could be weeks or months, sometimes even years.

Oral herpes = cold sores. Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) is the kind that causes cold sores. Herpes simplex type 2 causes genital herpes. Just to clarify! :)

@zaira a
Was just reading up on this and apparently it was at a rihanna concert when this woman tried the lipstick and the makeup artist applied it straight onto the lips
Now as part of the beauty therapy course I did we had a unit on makeup and we were taught that everything shouldn't put straight onto the face and use a palette to from

I'm sure she is the same type of lady that just dips her fingers in stuff to test it. I work at a gourmet grocery store and this woman comes in wearing a mask and takes it off to get herself a cup of a sample from our seafood salad bar. I see people double dip all the time... Yuck!
