Hey ladies! My friend said that coconut oil has a natural SPF. I wanted to give this a try because when I put on sunscreen, I have to wash my skin 2-3 times to get rid of the residue it leaves behind.
Has anyone tried this? Can you put on coconut oil cooking spray to achieve this or rub the coconut oil straight from the jar?
Would love your feedback! Thanks :)

Never heard of this. But it sounds weird. Oil will make your skin oily. :o.

Coconut oil is a penetrative oil so it penetrates the skin though. I wouldn't try the cooking spray at all, straight out of a jar and 100% pure may work. I can't say how well though.

Yeah no. your friend is wrong. you'll fry. having to wash off residue is so much better than a sun burn or skin cancer.

Googled it, her friend isn't wrong. Coconut oil is a natural sunscreen BUT its low in SPF. So for tanning I wouldn't use it, but going around for a walk or a simple outing you probably can, you'll just have to reapply. It can also be used as a base for an organic sunblock.

This is all wonderful, thank you! I have an organic facial sunblock that I would apply the oil to underneath. Maybe try it on my neck to see the reaction with it before I do my entire face. Will have to see what to do for rest of body.

Spf in coconut oil is really low almost none so I wouldnt recommend it. But if you want a tan go ahead. And don't use a spray. Extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil is very good for your skin.

Coconut oil is great for skin so even if the SPF is low it would be good to use anyway as a moisturizer. It won't make your skin super oily either. As someone stated before it's a penetrative oil, so it's absorbed into the skin unlike something like baby oil which is man-made and not really absorbed into the skin much.
