Do you have any tips on how to grow long hair?
May 28, 2013
Dina U.
Growing hair is more about taking care of what you have. hair grows at a set pace, on average about 1/2 inch every 6 to 8 weeks. nothing topical or internally taken will change this but there are things you can do to encourage your hair's health and longevity.
first of all make sure your hair is in good health- this means cutting off dead ends and keeping up with trims. when hair is damaged and split open it allows moisture to leave the hair shaft faster and makes it easier to damage. cutting your hair every 6-8 weeks might not sound appealing to grow it out but trims are 100% required.
eating right and drinking lots of water are always a good idea. your body needs proteins and nutrients to create hair, your skin and nails are made from the same proteins as hair too! taking prenatals, biotin, or other multivitamins will help ensure your body gets everything it needs to keep your hair growth rate up.
staying away from heat is not required, but highly advisable. heat tools like flat irons and blow dryers are great for styling but can also damage hair beyond repair. using these tools as little as possible, and using them smartly, is key to hair longevity.
keep your scalp healthy and stimulated. hair follicles need blood flow for them to grow so using head massagers will keep the blood flowing and encourage dormant hair follicles to reanimate and grow.
so like I said there is no miracle pill or shampoo, but they certainly won't hurt. attaining long hair needs time more than any other factor. a good tool in the mean time are hair extensions. I used them to keep myself from being over frustrated when my hair was in awkward stages (and to keep myself from chopping it all off). Now when I wear my extensions its a gauge of how far my hair has come! I still have a ways to go before attaining the length I have been pinning over, but making smart choices now will ensure that I get there as soon as my hair is able.

Is there anything that you know of that can be done for hereditary dark circles or bags?

Any drug store bronzer you would recommend? Preferably oil free??

Kristen- do you mean to cover up or get rid of?

Dani- do you mean a bronzing tan lotion? these kinds of products will all have an oil base bc that oil base is what allows an even absorbtion. the key with those products is to apply them thinly and several times thought the day. I will often use a dry towel to pat dry my legs after giving them a few minutes to absorb.

I would love a pressed powder bronzer... I love the bare essentials faux tan but its SO messy... Any ideas??

Kristen- genetics can't be changed but there are concealers formulated for your dark circles. they come in more colors than you would think! depending onthe hue of you circles will bepend on what color concealer you need, go to a make up store near you, like a sephora, and tell them what youre looking for. they will know exactly what hue to use and be able to give you more than one option!

My fav drug store cosmetics lines are physicials formula and neutrogena. I believe pf has a powder bronzer, to be honest I hardly use them. if price point is your main concern and youre looking to dupe the bare essentials faux tan google diy bronzers. there are at least 3 recipies I've heard good things about out there. you could make your own for a few dollars compared to the $20ish bare minerals charges for their pots amd have plenty more ingredients for refills.

Thanks for the idea!! Would have never thought of a DIY bronzer... I love pf!! But they have soooo many to choose from its hard to tell which is best. I like using bronzer as a blush/contour so I like the color of the faux tan. Wish it wasn't so messy!! Thank you for some direction!!
