Well you probably got a reaction from the cream that you bought. If you have combination skin then some parts of your skin would be dry and some parts would be oily. For example, I know lots of people seem to have dry skin on their face but a very oily t-zone which would then mean you have combination skin. No matter what skin type you have you should always use a cleanser and a moisturizer. I would personally recommend Simple Skincare's Light Hydrating moisturizer. It's cheap and great for all skin types. It absorbs well and doesn't make you dry or greasy and it gives your face a fresh look.

Also a good indicator is if you can see dry skin after you put foundation on. Before I knew I was dry, I would put foundation on my nose and it would look all cracked or cakey and weird. This is because it was dry and needed to be exfoliated and moisturized.
