I use any polish. I mainly buy the expensive ones when they are on offer. in the pic I posted the black is from pennys (primark and I payed €1.20 for it. the pink is maybelline colour show in pink boom (bought it when they were on offer in boots) and the white is a white tip polish for french manicures by sally hanson. I also bought a 15 piece nail art brush set on ebay for €3

And when I'm doin french tips on myself if I can't get them perfectly straight with the polish I usually wait until it dry, dip a fine tipped nail art brush into some nail varnish remover and wipe that across the nail where the edges need to be cleaned up
