Why does my face look dry when I put my foundation on?

Probably you don't use a foundation that is size your skin type.

If you skin is dry you should use likid foundation it helps to stay skin moisture.

That advice was confusing! Lol! It depends on what type of foundation you have. Powder is about as drying as it gets! So if you have dry skin, I would ditch that! If your skin is not acne prone, liquid foundation if the way to go, maybe with oil in it. Or a water based one would do good. Also, make sure you have a good moisturizer to use before applying the foundation!

Maybe apply a moisturizer before you use foundation

Also try putting on a really good primer before your foundation to help your skin look more even, and less flaky!

I use revlon colorstay, but I've tried the lush foundation and that does the same. I haven't got dry skin but I do gets spots a lot. and I use lush moisturiser and Boots (in the UK) No7 primer. any good primers,

Use a moisturizer before you put on your makeup (you should use one everyday), I usually use Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion with a few drops of Argan oil. Then apply a primer with a silicone feel or creamy texture (I like the Clarins one and benefits pore professional is great too). Using a liquid foundation will help a lot as well, like everyone said - Mac studio sculpt is supposed to be good for this but I haven't used it, I like lumi foundation by loreal as well for a lighter coverage.

smashbox moisturizing primer:)

Put a moisturizer on and then use a liquid foundation made for your skin type. I prefer Loreal True Match! It is really moisturizing.

It's a true match one.

Exfoliation might help. But everyone said what to do as well with moisturizer and primer.
And try putting minimal amounts on, it could be your using too much.

Well Keri, I found that revlon colorstay makes my face dry too and I think it's because of how I applied it and the formula. It drys fast so it's harder to blend for me. Now I use the Urban Decay Naked foundation and I'm obsessed! It doesn't cling around my dry patches and I use the Real Techniques Expert Face brush with it and it looks really flawless on my skin. I would say the coverage is light-medium but it gives me enough coverage to hide my blemishes and redness but it feels so light on the skin. Hope this helped! xo.

Make sure you are putting on enough moisturizer, notice the places where your face seems the driest and place more moisturizer on those spots! :)

Sounds like you have dry skin, like me... If I don't use a moisturizer and a primer before my foundation (and sometimes I exfoliate) then my foundation will sometimes look dry and patchy almost. So that being said, what really works for me (if your skin is reallllllllly dry use bio oil on your face overnight to make it really soft by the morning) and switch to a foundaiton for dry skin my favorite at the moment is maybeline dream smooth mousse (make sure it says smooth and not matte), this is formulated for dry skin so it's really moisturizing and is going to be a more wet consitatncy, I apply this with my real techniques expert face brush (this makes a huge difference with this foundation) it makes it completely flawless and will help the product stay put on your skin all day if you stipple it into your skin. Also Mac has a good foundation for dry skin, it's called studio sculpt- it's formulated for dry skin, it's really moisturzing as well. And before I apply my foundation I use an overnight firming cream (any will work- mines is from olay I think, I could check if you want to know) and then I apply my primer, it's the same ingredients as smashbox photo finish primer but isn't $40- it's by Monistat chafing relief powder gel (weird, monistat- I know but this stuff is seriously amazing! and isn't scented or anything it won't break you out, and it's $5!) and since it's a serum gel it's very moisturizing!! And sometimes I use another primer for other things like color corrections, or pore minizmier (from NYX pore filler- this is tinted and is amazing!) so you can use another primer on top if you need to. Also I've found if you have really dry skin, sometimes setting your foundation with powder can make you look powdery or cakey so try sitting in front of a fan for a min to dry your foundation (if you need to) and then apply your powder after it's dry, I don't know if it will work for you, but that's just what perticularly works for me! xoxo.

Thankyou everybody, I have only just started using foundation again, the colorstay one and it was fine a couple months before but I don't know what's happened. I use a primer and a moisturizer. but I will try the primers you guys have suggested. and the bio oil is a good idea, I haven't got any so I'll just use argan oil:) thankyou so much everybody!:D.

Even though I do not have dry skin, I always mix my foundation with my face moisturizer. I apply it with a buffer brush. This will make your skin glow tremendouslyyy.

I do have to tell you keri, there is a huge difference between bio oil and argan oil= argan oil doesn't have the same good stuff like bio oil does (vitamin a&e, and purcellin oil) and everytime I've used argan oil over night it doesn't really moisturize my skin as well (and this could just be MY skin) it just sits on my skin and makes it look almost greasy the next day...if that makes sense? It works great on the rest of my body, just not on my face. Also if your moisturizer or primer doesn't work- try efolliating right before your put your foundation on it will help to prep your skin and get rid of all the dead/dry skin already on your face. And make sure your drinking enough water- water can really help, its suggested you should try drinking a gallon a day (for really dry skin) it will help the elasticity in your skin & help it stay moisturized. Although a gallon maybe unreasonable to some, it's a lot easier now with the new yummy flavors/flavoring they have for water now :) xo.

Maybe use a bb cream.

Oh right, I can't exfoliate every day though even though it does work. argan oil is great for my face. and I will try mixing my foundation and my moisturizer, good idea:D and I try to drink as much water as possible but it makes me feel sick when I have too much, especially on an empty stomach. I've tried bb cream, I don't like it:/ I think I tried the mabyline one and it just kept rolling off. moisterise I already do but thanks:)
