I'm wondering if any of you have experienced any reactions or irritations to mainstream cosmetics or products? I have heard
Some horror stories about a few brands in particular, and I'd like to see if these sorts of experiences are common?

Well, mines is kinda dumb and probably not what you're looking for. But anyways, head and shoulders shampoo, the more to stop dandruff and prevent dry scalps or whatever, doesn't work for me. Whenever I use it, it dries out my scalp so bad it starts to ich and whenever I scratch it, it started to bleed a bit. When I found out the source of my dry scalp I immediately stopped using it. I don't know if it's just me cause my dad and brother use it still and have nothing to complain about. But yeah, there you go :)

No no thats exactly what I meant Alejandra! Wow, I wonder what kind of ingredients would cause that kind of reaction!

Maybe the perfumes in it, sounds like a nightmare! when I tried Eos chapstick (in the little sphere) my lips would get red in a bad way, I could bite at the skin kind of like a sunburn. its extra bad cuz I have a horrible picking habit. took a while to get back to normal!

I have definitely heard about perfumes and fragrances causing dryness and itchiness in some people. Wow Madeline, Eos has such mixed reviews. It's not available in Australia so it's just hearsay, but I'm not surprised to hear of your symptoms. Sounds familiar!

I'm discovering that I'm allergic to a lot more things then I thought since I've started my course in make-up diploma. I'm allergic to spirit gum, gives me a burning reaction that stings the eyes, allergic to Ben Nye finishing powder as well as other brands of finishing powder. Allergic to Kryolan mineral powder (big reaction to this stuff, makes my whole face itchy and red), allergic to Loreal eyes and lips make up remover (itchy reaction).

:/

Not so much fun for me.

Annie, those are some serious reactions! If you are studying make-up, it's really unfortunate you are reacting to stage makeup and products. I wonder what the common ingredient is. They are harsh products so harsh chemicals are probably the culprit?

My worst experience has to be chanel vitalumiere foundation. Right after I put it on my face turned red and kinda swell up. I looked like I had a peeling or something. Never buy anything from chanel after that.

Kadri T - I'm shocked. My best friend had the same reaction with Chanel foundation. It looked like she had a chemical peel. It's exactly why I started this topic.

Unfortunately I don't have a clue what ingredient was causing it. I thought I was only one reacting like this, never heard of anyone else. I know lots of people who use it and love it

Truthfully, I don't know if it was the same product, I just know it was a Chanel foundation. I'm not even sure if it was powder or liquid!

I don't think it even matters what product it was. One for me, other for her. But I steer clear from that brand ever since. Better be safe that sorry.

I'm allergic to the EOS lip balm, which sucks because I really liked them :( I moved on to Burts Bees and got the same exact reaction.

A few years ago I had an awful reaction to BE, it literally burned my skin, had to seek help from a dermatologist and receive cortisone shots to relieve the symptoms. Shortly after we determined that I am allergic to a common ingredient found in MANY cosmetics. So I stay far away from those, which is helpful in that it reduces the overwhelming amount of choices when I'm shopping for new products. Bismuth Oxychloride - I look for it and if found I move on to something else.

My only reaction I've had has been to eyelash glue. My eyelids get all puffy & my eyes get red. After trying out different brands, I think I'm allergic to the latex that they put in it such as the Duo brand. When I did use that glue my eyes would react in a matter of 5 minutes. I found that Revlon's glue doesn't bother me because it doesn't have latex. & recently I found I'm allergic to something that's in Loreal liquid pencil liner. That thing smudges on my eyes like no other. I wore it once when I had on contacts. Bad idea. Damn liner smudged all on them causing me to have blurry blurry vision. Had to leave class & go home because I couldn't see.

I have really bad reactions to almost all skin cleansers. I'm very allergic to things containing benzoyl peroxide I get a huge itchy red rash that doesn't go away for about a week.

I'm allergic to Cover Girl products. Everything I've tried from them (foundation, eye shadow, lip gloss, mascara) has given me bad hives and puffiness. It's only that brand though, so I'm not sure what they use that is so bad for me.
