I have found an easy way to do this, with an app, Mix Me App (Android), because I am always running late and I don't really have too much time to spend thinking about what to wear.
Basically I have been photographing my clothes and then mixing them and matching them, with the mix me app.
This is the link to it, I hope it helps - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.infobest.slices

I hang up all my shirts and nice jackets. All my jeans and pants get folded on this rack in my closet and are organized differently. Stack for work/dress pants, stack for colored pants/jeans and then regular jeans are organized by how much I wear them. Everything hanging up is organized by color, and within each color branch (for example, pinks) go from lightest to darkest. I keep all my shirts up there regardless of season, there's summer tanks and winter sweaters hanging. I don't see the need to swap them out by season. T-shirts that I would wear to bed (or not out in public) along with hoodies, sweats and yoga pants all go folded in my dresser.
I know this is super detailed and picky but I've had my closet like this for years and I've never had the problem of not being able to find anything.
