I agree with baby shampoo but I'd also add some olive oil. it helps clean the brush but also moisturizes the bristles so that they last longer and don't get brittle. I'd suggest doing it at the very least once a week.

Olive oil and dish soap. Put in in a bowl swirl the brush in it then swirl on your hand til it is clean then rinse. Do not fully submerge the brush in a glass if water. It gets into the base and makes it break easier and it takes longer to dry!
