There is a little difference sometimes loose powders have a little dewy effect but give a nice finish sleek look to the skin and some press powders give a dryer matte look to the skin.I always use a buffer brush to apply my powders and you don't necessarily have to apply all over your face.

Translucent powder is sheer setting but with out the color and helps control shine.

They both can be used its all in the look your going for, one is more of a matte sheer finish and the other adds color and helps cover areas.

Pressed and loose powder basically are the same. I guess it's your own preference that matters. First loose powders has less tendency to cake up but they're not travel friendly and cannot be used for retouch outside.

So loose powder or compact powder have to be applied after foundation or after applying blush n highliter.

You can apply compact powder after foundation and setting loose powder after your blush but you can just powder your T zone not the while face.

Compact powders can be either foundations, which comes in an array of colors and has a sheer to medium coverage if you don't like using liquid foundation or it could be a setting powder that is pressed into a compact, usually coming in a few colors or tints... Setting powders are just to "set" your makeup when you're all done with your face make up to make it last longer. Foundations and setting powders can come in loose or compact form. An example of a pressed foundation would be Mac studio fix or Bare Minerals Ready and example of a loose foundation would be Bare Minerals original loose powder. Example of a pressed setting powder would be like Nars Light Reflecting Pressed setting powder in translucent and loose would be like Tarte smooth operator or Bare minerals mineral veil... You could use a liquid foundation and a powder foundation to set it to give more coverage because setting powders usually don't give any coverage because of the lack in pigmentation... hope this helps!
