Would changing my diet? Specific products? I have combination skin with oily skin and dry patches here and there...what would help?

Yeah I have the same problem I stopped eating dairy and started using almond milk instead of regular milk and my skin has never been better:)

I have dry combination skin and what I have found to make the biggest difference in clearing up the skin and "balancing" it out, is a good cleanser, bha and moisturizer. While I use masks, serums etc. around that, I feel like overall getting those first three right has made the biggest difference, mainly with pretty much eliminating breakouts. another thing that I have realised recently is that eating too much sugar gives me dry sore patches on my face and nothing will make them go away completely apart from eating less sugar, but that's obviously quite a specific problem. :)

Diet is probably not a huge factor unless you are consuming too much or too little of something, or if you have a hidden allergy. A very select few people are sensitive to natural hormone imitators like phytoestrogens, but again, that's only a very small number of people.

A good cleanser that doesn't strip, a good BHA/salicylic acid product (I recommend Paula's Choice), and a moisturizer for both day and night. You need one for both because sun protection is absolutely vital for properly functioning skin.

Deborah S: thanks!

Leuca S: thanks!

You should definitely be exfoliating as well, that'll help with texture issues and dry patches. It may even help your breakouts. How often do you cleanse?

Alexis C: honestly, I don't even know what to cleanse with or even how to do it. What should I exfoliate with?

Tea tree oil has helped clear my skin :'). I'm so happy with it. I have oily sensitive combination skin and it's helped so much. also you can exfoliate with an exfoliating pad you can get from just about any store or there are exfoliating washes

I would also try using a mask. when I get breakouts or I haven't been too kind to my face, I use a mask and it helps a lot. there are different kinds of mask you can research to see what kind fits you best.

Cleanse morning and night and remove your makeup before cleansing. I don't really have any drugstore exfoliator suggestions (just avoid the St. Ives Apricot Scrub) but you'll want something that you can use about twice a week if it's a scrub. Then follow with your moisturizer.

Alexis C: what should I cleanse with? And how do I do it? Is it used like a toner?

I highly recommend hopping on the chemical exfoliant bandwagon. The BHA products I mentioned before are one of the best investments you can make if you are dealing with acne and/or texture issues.

A good cleanser just needs to clean your face well. You can use a micellar water to remove the initial layer of makeup from your face to allow your cleanser to actually get to your skin.

Good staple for me that I recommend for most skintypes except extremely dry is the Olay Gentle Clean Foaming Face Wash. Just lather between your hands with warm (not hot) water, then massage onto your wet skin after removing makeup.

I know Simple, Garnier, and a few other drugstore brands make micellar waters for makeup removal. For eye makeup you can also use cococut oil. Use a cotton pad for micellar waters; coconut oil can be massaged in with your clean hands and then rinsed off or wiped off with a cotton pad.

If you aren't ready to make the jump to chemical exfoliation, I recommend investing in microfiber washcloths. You can buy them in packs on common retail websites like Amazon, and they're fully reusable. Use them to gently buff off your cleanser before rinsing instead of taking two separate steps.

I know I mentioned using day/night moisturizers, but I didn't really recommend anything.

Do you consider yourself to have sensitive skin that reacts to products easily?

Dec 25, 2016

Brook A.

Leuca S: No, my skin isn't really sensitive to anything

Try out something like the cerave am lotion with spf 30 and its partner the PM lotion. Both are pretty cosmetically elegant and are hydrating without being greasy.

Drink water!! Drinking lots of water would definitely help and I have heard that cutting lots of dairy out of your diet will help (I'm not telling you to become completely vegan!) I also find that the 'Freederm' range works so well on my skin! I use their daily exfoliator once a day and use their fast track blemish treatment twice a day (will insert a photo) and their range is pretty cheap! I would also use a heavy moisturiser at night and also use 'the Body Shop seaweed clarifying night treatment' (will insert a photo). Hope that helps:) ♡
