I finally got my tattoo and I am super excited! it is to celebrate 25 years of friendship with my best friend!
for all my tattooed beauties out there, how often should I wash it? I put a thick gel on it twice a day, but should I wash it everyday with a soft ivory soap or every other day? I don't want it to get dry by the soap but I want,to keep up clean.
any tip on how to make sure it heals nicely?

I know you have to wash it with anti bacterial soap atleast ones a day and keep it moist like with aquaphor or a&d.

That's gorgeous. :) What gel are you putting on it?
I would wash it once a day...when you shower, with antibacterial soap. Nothing fragranced.

I don't know what is the gel, my tattoo artist gave it to me.

Wash with anti bac soap a few times a day, for the first couple days. Use AD for those days, then switch to eucerin intensive lotion while it heals completely.

Go easy on the soap. you want to keep it well lubricated untill it heals and soap can be very drying. so just water and very little soap and than a&d ointment.

Make sure you're using a THIN layer of ointment, you don't want to cut your tattoo off of oxygen.

If you aren't sure, your tattoo artist should supply you with after care directions as well.

Agreed if your unsure how to care for it then just ask the artist and they can tell you. For all of mine... when I take a shower each day depending on where it is on the body it may or may not need soap but I mostly put I tiny bit of baby wash over it and then rinse it with warm water but not directly from the spout let the water run softly over it so you don't damage the healing process. I applied lotion every day.

I typically just wash them once a day with an unscented hand soap. My holy grail healing lotion is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream!

Oh and for how long should I put the ointment? it a been 3 days now I don't want to overdo it (or is it impossible to overdo it?!)

With all my tattoos, when I got them I covered them up when I got a shower but only for the first time having a shower after getting my tattoos. I didn't wash mine with soap or anything, I just let the water clean it afterwards. I put ointment on twice a day and up until the point where there was hardly any scabbing and this depended on how big my tattoo was. For one of my biggest it was a few weeks and for my littlest it was a few days and mine have turned out fine :)

Thanks! it starts to dry out A little, like a sunburn so I'll keep putting the ointment on.

You're welcome :) Yeah, if I found that it started to dry out a bit I'd put a little extra ointment on through the day :)

I fot my first one not so long ago too, it's with Batman on my left leg :))) He's oone of my the most favourite fiction heroes and I really wanted to have a tattoo with him, now I'm very glad that my dream finally came true! :))
I also want to add several more on my body, at the current time I'm very interested in such anatomical designs as on these pics http://stylemann.com/best-anatomical-heart-tattoo-designs/ , they look very cool for me :) I'm planning to make the one with a heart on my left arm in the future too :)
