I want to give an oval brush as a gift and I'm not sure if there's much of a difference between them. Anyone with either one have suggestions?

I've got a lot of the artis brushes including 7 and 8... the 7 is a lot more versatile and imo a better tool for base work

I agree. I personally like Oval 8 but Oval 7 feels like a very versatile choice that can basically do anything.
