I have very stubborn straight hair and the one thing that worked for me was a crimper and lots of hairspray and don't brush it until you're ready to wash it (except gently with your fingers). I also find that my hair holds a shape more when I style it wet, like getting waves with braids overnight or something. Use a mousse or gel before you braid so it holds when you take it out :)

I don't know any products but what I do works for me. I put my hair in dutch braids overnight (the earlier in the evening the better) and I heard that straightening your plaits can make them waiver (but I have never tried that) and then take them out in the morning and spray them with a strong hairspray. Mine hold for most of the day then but you could curl them after you have taken them out and use a strong hairspray again after curling. Hope this helps:) ♡

@Laura Y I don't use any products and I do it dry or if my hair is washed then I will plait it mostly dry because if its wet, for me, it holds in all the water, so in the morning you still have wet hair so I do it dry and I also find the waves are better and stay more with one or two day old hair. I sleep on my usual cotton pillow as my hair doesn't really frizz but silk pillows are very good for hair and cause it to know less but in plaits it doesn't tend to knot anyway. Hope this helps:) ♡

@Laura Y Mousse would help with more volume in the morning maybe but as I said one or two day old hair works best and I find that mousse just doesn't work with my hair and makes it crispy and disgusting! But it's up to personal preference ♡

Anna is right on the money with what I was talking about. When I said wet, I more meant like damp. Your hair takes shape better when it's wet and dries how you want it, think roller set. I don't always use product either, but mousse is so lightweight that I would use it if I wanted it to hold stronger than normal (envir conditions, multiple days, etc).
Anna's method of putting it in braids daily seems like the best option, but since I can't do it myself lol, I just throw it up in a messy bun to sleep in :)
Shine serum is excellent for second+ days. I coat my hands in it and finger comb when it starts looking haggard. And like Anna said, you can use a curling iron in between for upkeep (that's what I do too), or braid that one section that needs help and clamp it with a straightener and let it cool :)
Good luck! Let us know what ends up working out for you, I could use some pointers too 😉

@Jessica D is right- shine serum is great to use and hair a few days old you can use dry shampoo on which will add more volume. Let me know what works best for you! ♡
